Larger Diameter Experience
It is possible to inspect large diameter sheathed pipe beyond the fixed c-arm throat dimension of 27 inches (68.6 cm). Sheathed piping in the range of 36 inches (91.4 cm) was done without problems at the Sunoco refinery in Philadelphia.
The insulation layer in larger O.D. sheathed piping is generally thinner, ranging in thickness from 2 inches (5.1 cm) to 5 inches (12.7 cm) between the outer sheathing and the external of the carrier pipe.
By adjusting the fixed position of the detector side of the c-arm to a 35 to 40 degree angle, will be able to visualize to outer diameter of the carrier pipe through the insulation. The angled detector does not affect the image quality and can scan sheathed pipe up to a maximum diameter of 40 inches (102 cm).
